在設計車輛上，原廠會依據車體結構、懸吊系統、引擎動力等多方面因素來決定連桿、拉桿和防傾桿的性能，以及拉桿和防傾桿有無安裝的必要。連桿在懸吊系統中是極為重要的桿件，關乎到在作動中如何傳遞路面的回饋力到車體結構；拉桿是強化車體的剛性，減少車身扭曲的情形，至於防傾桿則是用來抑制過彎側傾。因此，連桿與防傾桿是作動件，拉桿則是屬於不會動的結構件，顯然他們有各自扮演的角色。(防傾桿跟拉桿有著極大的差別，防傾桿需有彈性，拉桿則是剛性至上，只需要一些彈性即可)
